Youth who have engaged in dangerous behaviors such as assault, theft, property destruction and running away are often difficult to manage and difficult to treat. They often have severe trauma histories and have had experienced failed interventions. Often, these youth struggle with relationships, trust, and lack hope for the future. The negative behavioral patterns used in the past have become engrained and may be difficult to change.

How We Can Help

Stevens specializes in working with difficult populations and excels at providing a safe, secure therapeutic setting. Stevens offers treatment approaches that address the unique needs of each youth. Specialization provides a more intensive, consistent, and individualized approach, improving the quality of treatment and the chances for success.

How the Program Works

For adolescent males with significant emotional and behavioral challenges, treatment begins by providing a safe, staff-secure, predictable, and highly structured therapeutic environment staffed by professionals specially trained to work with this population. An initial comprehensive assessment is completed and is designed to clearly identify the youth’s strengths, needs, and desired outcomes. As progress is made, youth may have the opportunity to transition to our Intensive Group Home (IGH) program.

Youth are assigned to a Master’s level clinician who provides weekly individual and biweekly family therapy, as well as case management. An initial comprehensive assessment is completed and is designed to clearly identify problem behaviors, clarify the origins of these behaviors, identify strengths and needs, and determine treatment recommendations. From this process, a treatment plan is developed that includes goals and objectives for treatment.

Progress in treatment is reviewed after the first 30 days of treatment, and then on a quarterly basis. In addition to the Stevens’ treatment team, families and outside agency workers are vital to this process. An updated treatment plan is developed at each meeting with progress noted.
